Photo THE PHOTOS:
All the photographs you find on this site are my own work. As I stated at the front door, I'm an amateur photographer and always will be. I do this for the enjoyment of the hobby.
I use a Canon EOS SLR camera with a few lens options and sometimes various flash and filters. Many of the photos on this site were scanned from the original prints. As I discovered, it's not unusual to shoot dozens of rolls of film and only find a few shots that are keepers. In this regard, I've come to appreciate the flexibility offered by a good graphic software for adding those finishing touches. Also, more recently I invested in a Sony DSC-P92 5 megapixel digital camera. So far, I'm quite impressed with the quality of the images and prints from this camera -- it was worth the investment.

THE GRAPHICS:
I had a lot of fun with this part and I hope you do too. Almost all of the graphics you see on this site (the headers, the rooms, the animated icons, the menu choices) were all designed from scratch. I learned quite a bit about Adobe Photoshop 6.0 during the process and it turned out to be a nice tool for graphics editing and design.
Fern
I say I had a lot of fun because I got to create things. For example, this fern. I wanted a fern on a pedestal. But do you think I could find any such image in any clip-art archive? Not a chance. So I found a fern in a pot and I found a bathroom sink on a pedestal and with a little cut and paste and some clean up I had the graphic I wanted. I really did enjoy surfing image archives and speciality sites (for furniture and fixtures) so I could build the rooms I wanted. Although the site started only as a photo gallery, it ended up being a bit of mini-mall with various points of interest.

THE CODE:
So what about the stuff behind the screen? I used a little bit of everything on this project...HTML, java applets javascript, CGI, frames, pop-ups, image maps, CSS, sounds, etc. I tried to use all of these in a way that doesn't make the site overbearing and difficult to use. All the bells and whisltes are nice, but not at the expense of site functionality.
Most, if not all, of the HTML code was written in HotMetal Pro 5.0. I'm very familiar with free-hand HTML coding, but a project of this size required a more robust editor. My first project manager was Microsoft Notepad (those were the good old days). I must say I was very pleased and impressed with the capabilities of HotMetal Pro.
So there you have it. I really think I built this site for myself, but if you find something you enjoy here as well then it makes it all worth while.
Thank you for visiting.
